Does anyone know of a list of hardware sizes for the Caterham. I've searched but haven't found anything. In particular, I'm wondering how much is SAE vs British vs Metric on the chassis and suspension.
I don't know of a list per se, but you could probably gather the information on your own using the current car's assembly manual from the Caterham home page at http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/htm..._SIGMA_125.pdf (14.something MB pdf file). There are sure to be some variances though, just because your car is from before this manual, and because few if any cars are optioned exactly alike.
I have the Owner's Manual for my car, but it doesn't have all this info in it. I cross threaded one lower shock mounting bolt into the De Dion tube for a few turns, and thought I was going to need a tap. I just dremeled out the first few threads in the De Dion tube and have about an inch of thread beyound that, so it's OK. I'm trying to take it pretty slow rebuilding the suspension, since I can't just run down to the dealership and get a new part! After today, I think I'll just drive it for a month before doing too much more, otherwise I may end up with it on jack stands before I get to play with it.
Good point, Doug - I had forgotten about that. It appears they have changed it a little bit since then, but the previous generation one is probably better suited to Justin's needs anyway.
Is the "owner's manual" the same thing as the build manual?
Anyway, from Section 2 page 5 of the build manual:
"As a general rule, the fasteners used in the chassis are of imperial dimensions and the drive train fasteners are of metric dimensions."
By this measure your bolt *should* be imperial
I kept all of the hardware fastener pack sheets specific to each section of the build manual that came w/ the kit and I'd love to help but I'm not home. Perhaps someone else out there did same and will come along.
Chris
