N6 is in need of info about swapping a 4 speed tranny to a 5 speed

Dear all seveners,

I just got my caterham super seven from one of our members and it is a blast, very happy with the purchase, it is a cat 1998 se classic with 1600 crossflow super sprint. Only thing I want to know is if it is possible to put a 5 speed transmission, now it is fitted with a 4 speed on live axle, great for back road but high rpm on freeway and since I am planning to use it quite a lot it might be an issue. I live in the bay area next to google so the weather is on my side.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

5 from 4 into 7

I have done just that, depends on chassis that you are starting with. Had to make new subframe to hold the rear trans mount.

Thank you for your answer. As for the chassis it is the standard size, not the wider version. I need to put the cat on a lift and takes some pictures so we know what we are talking about. Will call you this WE. Best etienne
