  • Hub change

Anybody know a joint that has a press and a person who can use it w/ an IQ greater than lab rat? I've gotta get my uprights clear of the old hubs so I can finish the upgrade.

Westside or around Eagle Rock. Scott? Doug? Magnus?

    Thanks!
    Chris

Any automotive machine shop should be able do this for you.

I don't know any around your area. The closest I know of is Chatsworth.

I've not yet done upgrade yet so don't know if you can press them out yourself.

I haven't done this upgrade. But I own a BMW repair shop and a press in West LA.

Both Clark and MMurphy agree that it's a tough job without a press.

They just went to a nearby auto shop.

          2 questions:

          Got a press?

          If yes,

          where's the shop?

I work in far eastern Santa Monica.

I don't remember how I changed the hubs, but I am fairly sure I did it without a press.

I assume we are talking about the non-shattering spun alu hubs.

              Chris.

I'm at Olympic just West of the 405.

Do you have the parts off the car?

Maybe come by one evening and we'll knock it out.

You're on, for sometime this coming week. Tell me which day works best. I'm at 26th & Broadway in the People's Republic of Santa Monica so you're just around the corner, no more than an hour away in the rush hour. :D

Edit: Wednesday's no good for me - I have to be downtown late afternoon and there's no way I could make it back to the west side.

Chris, I had my wife take mine to the local grease monkey and he did the job in about two minutes. Hub removal I mean. It's really not difficult or dangerous.

Thanks Michael. John (BMWRACER) invited me over to his shop and he pressed the old ones out (w/ a loud BANG) and we got the tapered races put in the new hubs.

It's unclear to me where the spacer goes and the thinner washer? Inquiring minds want to know (and want to get this done).

                    Thanks!

Magnus posted photos with very specific instructions on the placement of the spacers. His posting should be in one of the "hub" threads. Have fun!

You and me both. I simply didn't recall that thread or the drivel I wrote AT ALL. I wonder what I was on about there... oh bartender...

Hub change done. Went for a little shakedown cruise, the Art Center loop. It had been so long I'd almost forgotten why I have this car. Oh bartender...

Big Thanks to John (BMWRACER) for the assist etc. and to Magnus for the thread he didn't remember. Thanks MM for pointing out my AAI (Alcohol-Induced Alzheimers)? I don't think so:D
