  • Brake and rotor inspection complete

After visiting a few garages I found one who had experience dealing with kit cars. They inspected the lights and verified that all the parts were new. They did not have to remove a wheel or put the car on a lift. They checked the alignment of the headlights and verifed that all the brake/light equipment works.

The one thing of interest is that they asked me what model year the kit was based on. 1965 I answered. This means that they inspect the car as a 1965, not as a 2003. Thus you don't have to have the third brake light or a warning light on the dash to tell you the emergency/parking brake is on.

The garage I went to is Cartex on Bascom in San Jose. Cost: $109 Time: 1.5 hours.

--One step closer! Now back to the DMV...

    Cheers,

I had essentially the same experience. I was asked to show that all of the lights worked front and rear, the mechanic guy asked me to align the headlight on the driver's side and that was about it. The brake inspection consisted of a bent-over look at each wheel ("I bet these really stop this thing") and the inquiry "Does that handbrake stop the car?".

    Bingo, bravo, finito.

      Finished?

      Tom,

Have you completed the registration process yet? I assume you have, and have been busy enjoying your car.

        completed!

        Hi Sean,

Yep. I am legal. ...and you are right. I've been quiet because I've been out driving. I've been busy learning what the car will do and what liimitations the driver has

Let me know if you want to go for a spin...or perhaps we can convince Wayne and Rod to meet up for lunch...

        Cheers,

        Tom

I'd love that... I've never even sat in one before! Lunch, weekend, after work, whatever.
