  • Paint job.

Any recommendations on a good paint shop somewhere in the LA/OC area?

I need my new bonnet painted and brought it down to a local high-end shop today. They said that the big job was to mix the paint to match the rest of the car and gave me an estimate of $600-700.

I called Caterham USA to get a color code for British Racing Green, which would ease the job of the paint shop. They told me that they never had any luck with color matching based on the (apparently weird) color codes they got from the UK and recommended manual matching.

Question 1: Is the $600-700 realistic?
Question 2: Has anyone given their Seven a complete sprayover? If so, how much did it go for?

    Try http://www.mulhollandmotorsports.com/

I have not needed their services, but I know people that have used them and they do great work. Can't say they would be cheaper or not though.

Julio, the owner, is an enthusiast (he has a Lotus too), he comes out to the meets quite often and is very nice.

The funny thing is my wife goes " What is that car a Morgan ? " and I said "No that's a Caterham but there is a Morgan driving it " -delise

I spoke to Ben at Caterham USA about this option while trying to figure out the color codes. He said it usually wasn't a problem apart from the rivets which where really hard to get completely stripped of paint.

I'll go over the car and see how much work it would be to remove the rivets before stripping it.

Magnus, did you consider using the shop that touched-up your bubbling paint a few years ago? Or was there a problem with them? (I can't remember their name now).

They were a bit expensive, I forgot the exact price. But worse, the bubbles came back within 2 months.

I think they wanted $4000 for a complete paint job, if I remember correctly.

When I had the accident in 2003 I checked for a complete paint job and even got a quote for $5000 and the insurance did not want to pay that. That was mainly due to extensive masking and the need for my bare aluminum to be etched (which you would not have to to do). But expensive it is....
