  • Exhaust guy in the OC

    Magnus / Doug,

What's the name of the fabricator that does exhaust systems in O.C.? He's the guy that did Will's work as I recall. I have some work to do.

    Thanks!
    Chris

I only know of Burns Stainless.

High Performance Stainless Steel Exhaust Parts. Burns Stainless offers exhaust parts, tubing, collectors, headers, race mufflers and accessories. 304 Stainless Steel, 321 Stainless Steel, Iconel, Aluminum, Tubing and pipe, bends and straights, v-band, turbo collectors, flanges, bungs, plugs, and apparel.

I also have a more local source if it's just welding.

I'm not sure. The primaries are bolted to a 4-1 collector that's welded to a pipe that's welded to the can. There's cracks on the weld there. Could be just a weld job or a new collector & weld job. If the latter, I'll forego the weld and go w/ a larger output w/ a slip connection so I can bolt up the Ammo Can that's been sitting in the garage for years.

I'll make a picture when I get home and post it for opinions.

http://www.hytechexhaust.com/ is the guy. He didn't have time to do my headers when I asked him, but I met him and he did some serious work.

I got my muffler from http://www.coastfab.com/. They do beautiful mufflers, although their standard stuff seems too small and loud for our engines.

Burns seems to be the 800 lbs gorilla on the block. Everybody recommends them, but I've never dealt with them. I went to them to fix a collector crack, and they sent me off to a local fabricator (whose name I forgot) to do it.

Well it looks like the merge collector is pretty much toast as it's cracked beyond the weld. I suppose it's high time I put the new - er - long unused can on the car anyway.

          Thanks fellas.

You should be able to get someone to weld the cracks and make a decent repair.

Only worth it if the new collector is expensive and the welding is convenient and cheap.

Good thinking. Time is a factor as Willow Springs is only a couple of weeks away, provided the weather obliges. Tell me more about your welding contact please.

I'm working (yay! - increasingly rare in the architect / construction business these days, a real life fact far more annoying - or worse - than any comments I have made on this board. Pbbbbt.) at a jobsite in Brea Monday thru Thursday so I'll have to get it in on a Friday likely. I can remove it from the car no problem. Do tell, here or via PM.

If the thing is really shot and no further damage to be done I can give it a try. I am not a master welder but I am very good with the grinder to clean it up ;-)

If you want you can come over next weekend but I am not offended if you want to let a Pro do it.

I too have a mig welder with Stainless wire but Gert looks to be the better welder. I'm out of practice.

My pro welder is in Oxnard and not as convenient as Gert.

Some muffler shops can do stainless welding too.

I can check on a source in North Hollywood.

                        Chris

As mentioned in the PM I have a welder in Sun Valley that might be able to help.

Steve's racing partner might be the best bet if he is close to you.

                          exhaust

Chris, sorry but my guy is on the road until the 3rd week in march, but I do know a custom header fabricator in the south bay that could fix it but do not know how much it might cost, but it would come out perfect. Steve

I got the exhaust welded at Willowsprings Saturday. There's a race shop literally feet outside the gate. 70 bucks. Thanks to all for the help:)
