I wish the "Torque Monster" could tour with you guys.......but the 12 hour drive to get there.....Ouch. By the way, I am VERY familiar with the Weaverville/Trinity Center area, I love it up there. That is the tour your talking about right, Nor Cal?

Anyone in San Diego up for a trip on some way twisty roads on this long weekend? I have a great route planned out!

Another great road to check out, Hwy 198 Generals Highway to the 254 I beleive and make sure to zoom in to see all the corners. Its also at 15 degrees at the steepest point!

Tom, I noticed on BC you said you are only running 55mm of ground clearance. Were you running that low before?

As of Monday, the tank is back in! I'll do a test drive this weekend.
However, the windscreen is off as I'm replacing the glass. I've had the glass for months but its more fun waiting till the last minute.

I did not make any measurements before I started upgrading. In hindsight, this was a mistake. I should have measured everything and then set it back the same way - just with the wider wishbones. Now I will have a hard time figuring out which changes made a difference!

I did a quick search on BC and it seems I did have quite a bit more clearance before:

I've added a raceline wetsump which makes the sump even with the bellhousing. I've got 83mm of clearance _without_ me or a passenger in the car (13' w/A032R tires).

I'm going to wind up the platforms a bit more and see how much I can raise it.

I measured my sump clearance last night before asking my earlier question about your ride height. Interestingly, my clearance is also 83mm without anyone in the car. Can't imagine any lower than that around here.

I'll measure my car when I get home from work (if I remember) and post the numbers thereafter. I'm pretty sure it's close to "standard", ride height wise. The car's always handled pretty much dead neutral and while many factors influence that, the height & rake are a good place to start.

One thing I just realized is that I automatically loose 8mm when going to the widetrack setup - as there is a 8mm spacer which goes under the upright and on top of the lower wishbone.

I've cranked up the adjusters and now have 80mm (unladen). This should give enough clearance for the tour.

Hi Tom,

Heights are 130mm front, 160mm rear (measured just rearward of the wing at the A frame), 70mm to sump. A arms at front are pretty much parallel to the ground. That's w/ 13s & ACB10s. I've got the widetrack as well.

My car came set up with 130mm front and 160mm rear, 0 camber and slight toe out on the front end. I too have a Raceline sump with a British Auto Specialist skid plate. My car turned in well, but was darty in a straight line and tended to bottom out on the skid plate. The Caterham assembly manual recommends a minimum front height of 150mm, with the rear at least 15mm higher. As I understand it, more rake equals more front bite, more ground clearance equals more front lift at speed. I raised the front height 10mm, left the rear as was, and changed the front set up to 0 toe and about 1-1/5 degree negative camber. The result was better ground clearance and more stable straight line behavior, without any obvious loss of turn in, and the car is still neutral with oversteer at the limit.

Thanks for these numbers. Did you measure them with your weight in the car or without?

Here is what I now have with my weight (approx) in rocks in the drivers seat and 1/4 tank petrol:

127mm (chassis rail just behind the front wishbones)
134mm (chassis rail where side skin goes from round to square)
147mm (chassis rail just in front of the rear arch)
70mm (under sump)

These numbers are consistent on the left and right sides of the car (within 2mm).

Nobody in the car, about 1/2 tank of gas.

I don't have any issues w/ the sump bottoming by and large, mostly because I don't use the car on the streets too much.
