  • Any recs for a good mechanic in Los Angeles?

Hi guys, I have a few things I want checked out on my Seven and I'd like to take it in to a trustworthy mechanic in the area to give it a nice once over. Does anyone have any recommendations in or around the Los Angeles metro area?

What things do you want to check out?

I warmly recommend listing them here to see if anyone of us has seen them before. It could save you a ton of time and money in fault searching.

The webbers are a little tweaky. I get sputtering around 2,000 to 3,000 rpms especially in 2nd gear. It normally gets better as it warms up, but it's still rather rough. I'd like to have those tuned a bit better. I also need some work done on the cooling system. Currently there is a leak in one of the hoses and I am spilling coolant everywhere after a drive. I'm new to the car and really new to working on cars all and all... complete newbie here. I'm pretty sure I can change the hoses out myself, but I'd like the system checked out to make sure that everything else is fine.

All and all I just want to get the car checked out and start fixing the parts of wear that need to be replaced. It's a 1993 and the engine is strong and working well, but I know there are things that need to be worked on and this car has sat for a long time without a lot of regular upkeep. So it's really just getting the ball rolling and starting to get this car running optimal. My main reason why I'd like to see a mechanic or someone who really knows more about cars than myself. (Though I'm learning more and more every day).

            Hmm.

The dyno guy, Bisi, that we are doing the dyno day with is apparently an ex Weber factory rep. He should be able to help you. He is a bit off in Chino, but it may be worth giving him a call. His web site is www.bisimoto.com.

I can check out your car (for free) and point to things that may need attention. I am hesitant at actually fixing anything I find since I am not a professional mechanic and (especially) carry no insurance. I live in Manhattan Beach. Send a private message with your email address, and I'll ping you.

            /Magnus F.

Hello, all. mrpuppy, may I ask if you managed to find a reliable service shop in the area? I have been looking for some time as well. Any suggestions or experiences to share would be greatly appreciated.

A shop I've used a couple time is Morgan West in Santa Monica.

The only suggestion if you take your car to them is make sure you get everything in writing before any work gets done.

I use a shop in El Segundo to work on my Elan called AVO West, they specialize in old Lotus and other vintage race cars. They work on Sevens as well.
If you are interested I can pass on their contact info to you.

The funny thing is my wife goes " What is that car a Morgan ? " and I said "No that's a Caterham but there is a Morgan driving it " -delise

I studied mechanical engineering with Todd and noticed some of your shots of his elan - you guys have some sort of a barter deal going?
