  • PNW2007 - Now Getting Serious

    Dear Prospective Tourers,

the hotels are picked and room blocks are held for reservation (thanks to Stan Sadorf for his effective help with hotel reservations on the coast leg)!
I put together all the cost that I know of, see my good faith estimate attached.
Please take note that for insurance purposes this tour will be organized as an activity/event of the newly established USA7s club (www.usa7s.com). The facilities of the club will also be used to collect and disburse the deposit (still under construction).

    THE FOLLOWING IS VERY IMPORTANT!

To proceed I need your (95% sure) confirmation that you sign up for this tour and also for which locations (if not whole tour). There is still some limited wiggle room for emergency bail-out because most individual reservations can be canceled. I would also highly appreciate to let me know if you are still on the participant list but know you can NOT come.

The further schedule is as follows:

    - YOU need to print, sign and return to me by mail (or e-mail as scanned copy) the attached sign-up sheet by Dec. 10 (well, if it is in by 12/31 that is still O.K.).
    - I will collect sign-ups and mail the participant list to all hotels by Jan. 5 (I will be out of the country from 12/11 to 1/1)
    - I will mail the hotel contact list to the confirmed participants by 1/5
    - YOU need to call the hotels on the contact list for room reservation on your name by 1/31 (there will be 2 straggler hotels that can be reserved only after 2/15 and Crater Lake needs no individual reservation)
    - YOU make a payment of the deposit, probably around $300 (for Crater Lake cabins, support vehicle, club fee/insurance, possibly ferries) as soon as the club payment web page is set up, but latest by 4/15
    - WE will meet 8/17/2007 and have 2 weeks of genuine Se7ens fun :)
(well there is a whole bunch of other things I need to do but I am not going to bore everybody with that)

Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Best regards, Gert Burkhardt

Hi Johnty, would be great if some of the UK folks show up (although I am not sure if NI is part of the UK). So far all of them who said they might come bailed out and I don't blame them, given the shipping debacle back from USA2005.

Anyway....the only commercial outfit that I know of renting Se7ens in CA is no longer in business. That means if there are no Se7en owners who want to rent (unlikely) or e.g. swap for a trip in Europe (maybe) this does not look promising. Let's see if there is some feedback.

I suppose if you find a loaner or rental you would need to bring your own tyres :) The roads on this trip are MUCH more curvy and less trodden than on USA2005.

Probably not an attractive alternative but there are a bunch of people going to drive single.

      Cheers, Gert

I might consider a passenger for an exchange ride on the Le Mans trip or some similar event.

However, all should be forewarned that I am a flatulent snorer, at best.

Hi Gert, Is there an updated map yet? Even a tentative one? I entered the towns into the AAA trip planner and it picked some routes that almost certainly are not where we are headed! :-)

Thanks for this info and the organizational work. I'm looking at dates to see if I can join the tour for the Washington state portion. Do I need to join the club to participate? Happy to do so, if that's the drill.

Hi John, the routes are not that tentative anymore....and I agree this is a good time to publish some more detailed maps. For easier finding I will post them in a new thread.

Well, actually we will have one WA state segment driving north into Canada and another one coming back along the coast. If you are only planning to join for a short piece and organize the hotel yourself you can do this on your own. If it is longer an you would like to get the reservations on the group agreements the club membership (only $20) is included in the shared cost.

Brad, I was talking about a passenger, not a roommate. Or do you mean you are snoring while driving?

Gert thank you for driving this, and Stan thanks for helping out!

Regarding the USA7s membership requirement, does the insurance company require passengers to be club members, or is that just for the car owner?

Johnty, I wouldn't worry about Brad's snoring while driving. Although the thought of it is a bit frightening, his car is so loud that I never noticed any odd sounds when riding shotgun in his seven. I hope you decide to come along!

John, the club membership is required for the driver/owner only.

Reminder for the folks on the "tentative participant list".....If you have not yet done so please send me the sign-up sheet (or let me know that you can not come). I will assemble the group list for the hotels 1st week of January.

                        Thanks!!

I have sent another reminder email today to all participants on my mailing list because I am still short of many sign-up sheets. If somebody believes to be a tourer and did not get this email please send me a Private Message or email with your correct address!

                          Thanks,

                          Gert
