  • Hello from Maryland

Happy to be here. I've decided my next automobile is going to be a Caterham Seven, or some variant thereof. Currently driving a Lotus Elise during warm months, and I fully blame the Elise for my newfound obsession with the Caterham. Love the Elise and not ready to part with it. Not much of a competitive racer, just a guy who enjoys driving. Would love to keep both for awhile.

    Cheers!

You are right on the edge of joining the lunatic fringe of the auto world. Hope ya make it in.....

Your priorities may be about to change.

There is the problem. The Elise, with its doors, roll up windows, and optional hard top was actually designed for winter driving. You need to pick up a se7en for those pesky warmer months :)

        Thanks, all.

The first year in Maryland I drove the Elise all winter because we hardly had any snow. Realistically I can't drive the Elise on ice and heavy snow. Even if I could I like the car too much.

A Caterham would be a weekend car, for me, or possibly an occasional commute.

So now I'm waiting. Probably be a year off before I can pull the trigger. In the mean time I'll try to meet some Caterham owners in the MD/VA area and trade rides.

Doug, thanks. I was planning on making a field trip to Delaware when the weather warmed up, as it is the closest Caterham dealership.

Do you recommend gt-classics? I've been browsing the US dealership car listings, but I need to slow down. Seriously this can't happen sooner than next year.

There was a very nice one on www.EliseTalk.com that went for a good price!

It's an 05 Superlight R, Orange with black carbon cycle wings, rear fenders and nosecone. Under 1000 miles, never registered (used at trackdays only) but certainly can be :) . The engine/transmission package is the 5 speed/ford Zetec America with upgraded cams package, rated at 200 hp give or...

Chip has a great reputation. I've chatted with him a few times and wouldn't hesitate to buy a car from him.

Chris at Sevens & Elans has been around forever. URL is

Edit: This is the one you want (mostly - except for the ugh-leee wheels & the claim of being the quickest car in the country - Stokes would probably disagree):

Istr that Steve (RACMini) in these here parts purchased his beeyootiful black car from him.

I've only bought a few things from Chip at GT Classics. He had the parts when no one else did and delivered as promised.

a couple from hemmings. i'd recomend joining up at usa7s.com to get the info of the se7en owners near u. the best thing u could do is actually come to 7-7-07 to see all the variants and speak directly to all the manufacturers. well, all but caterham at the present moment.

i am particulary interesed in the flying miata westfield and Deman builds.

as for a 'true' 7, the CSR is worth every penny:D

Hey there... fellow Marylander. I live in Rockville / Gaithersburg area.

There are quite a few of us around. Shoot me an email, and I'll put you in touch with the locals. A mix of Caterhams, at least one Birkin, my Rotus, and a few others.

                      Cheers.
