  • Hi there, folks!

Hi there Caterham Club! My name is David, and I'm from Whittier, CA. I found out about the California Caterham Club while searching for some information on registering a car under CA SB100. Although I don't have a Caterham, I do have an Ariel Atom on the way (the "kit" due to arrive this summer). In some ways, I consider the Atom to be a sort of younger sibling to the Caterham/Se7en cars, so hopefully I can fit in here. :)

    Hi David,
Yes, anyone who would buy an Ariel Atom will probably fit right in with this group! I can't wait to see an Atom in person.

Will yours be used on the street or track, or both? I saw that the Honda engine won't be used on the US version after all, just the GM Ecotec?

Keep us posted, and remember to try and get your SB100 number the first day that the DMV is open in January.

    Stan

(Are you really Jay Leno? I heard he is getting the first one!)

I do plan to register the Atom for street use, and plan to drive it occasionally when the weather is particularly nice. It will be powered by a 245-hp Ecotec engine. It's going to be black on black on black with black highlights. :)

I'll keep you all posted on my registration experience, too. I plan to treat the registration process VERY seriously...I'll be "pre-prepping" the DMV rep(s) I'll be dealing with (maybe even smoothing things out in Sacramento ahead of time), and camping out at a prime DMV location to ensure that I get one of the 500 slots. It'll be like buying Pink Floyd concert tickets. :)

Oh, and no I'm not really Jay Leno. I'm sure that Jay wouldn't have to worry about waiting in line for one of the 500 SB100 slots. He probably has a way around that on the inside. BTW, I HAVE heard that Jay has been trying to get Arnold to up the slots from 500 to 2000. Don't know how that's been going, though.

        Jay for president!

If he could get the limit up to 2000, I would happily let him take my Caterham for a few laps on the track.

Jay? Are you there? 0-60 in sub 4, waiting for you...

          Smashing Atom!

Outstanding! Are you getting one from the new factory in Oregon? Such a great design...

Yep, mine is being made by Brammo in Oregon. BTW, I got some pictures a couple of days ago of Jay's Atom. It's completed, and is the first US spec Atom off the line. It looks really nice.

I was delighted to see this CA. registered Atom at Laguna Seca during last years historics. I was given a chance to sit in it and get comfy. The guys were telling me about the set up happening in OR. Might be worth a road trip to see the goodies going together!
