I thought it might be a good idea to change oil before the Palomar Blat and that is what I did. I drained the oil with my fabulous clean aeroquip self-closing valve and changed the oil filter.
Filled up with fresh Rotella T6 and turned the engine on. I heard an unusual hissing sound but oil pressure was O.K. so I walked around the car to find it pumping the oil in prodigious quantities onto the ground. Stopped the engine right away before the sump ran dry.
What happened: the filter rubber seal broke loose from the old filter and got partly stuck to the remote filter mount. I did not notice when I disposed of the dripping old filter in a hurry. Then the new filter mangled the old rubber part and obviously could not seal properly. Oh well, only a gallon or so of oil to mop up from the driveway and to wash from the engine bay.
Never had that happen before but lesson learned.
