  • Newcomb's Ranch Loop

Did a fun quick drive in the Birkin this afternoon (sunday)
215 to the 2 (Angeles Crest Highway) to Newcombe's Ranch. Looped round Upper Big Tuhunga / Angeles Forrest Highway and back to the 2.
Great views, not too much traffic for a sunday but enough of a police presence to make me keep one eye on the speedo.
There's often a few bikers at Newcomb's who want to know all about the sevens.

Looks like a good one, Paul. I did a Northern version of that myself, to Alice's restaurant and to visit some parks in a figure eight just a week-and-a-half back.

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

Wow, isn't that car around $350,000?
Sorry to hear about the ticket, it's so easily done.
I accidentally hit 100mph momentarily while i was overtaking someone on the 2 near Glendale on my way home from that drive.
How long does it take for a ticket like that to go away?

Yeah, I think it was lie $375k or something. Problem with cars like it is that they are so over competent that it doesn't feel like you are going fast. I wasn't even trying and I got pulled over for going 80, but I am going to fight it since he didn't get me on radar, he wrote me up for the speed he claims he had to go to catch me, which means he was going faster than I was.

Not sure how long it takes to for a ticket to come off your record, but you can go to traffic school to get it cleared

Tickets stick around for 3 years I think. Go to traffic school. It goes away. You get 1 opportunity every 18 months. Believe me, I know.

The CHP have been all over the 2 for years now. They just got tired of scraping mc riders off the asphalt and sending tow trucks to winch fast cars back up from the mountainside.

Not only CHP....the Glendale City police seems to be fishing there, too. Ask me how I know. I was wondering to challenge the cop what he was doing there but was afraid he might double down.

Above Foothill? The freeway portion of the 2 goes through Glendale but not the 2 lane part. Bad luck running into GPD there - they're THE WORST.

California law (and probably every other state) allows for the police to go after law breakers regardless of whether they are in their own jurisdiction or not. IOW, a cop from Long Beach can write a ticket in Barstow if he / she feels like it. I can't remember the exact statute but I do remember looking it up one time, for cause.

I just got home from doing a longer version of the Newcomb's Ranch drive, taking the 2 to Wrightwood then down towards Palmdale and back across the mountains via Mount Emma Rd/Angeles Forrest Highway.

Got pretty cold up high, had to thaw out a bit in Wrightwood. Wearing a sweat shirt and jean jacket just wasn't cutting it. That's why I headed back via the lowlands. A section between Newcomb's and Wrightwood had loads of sump hungry boulders. Luckily the traffic was very light so it was easy to swerve round 'em. Crossing back over the mountains on Mount Emma Rd/Angeles Forrest Highway I lost the light. Still good fun doing that section in the dark but I had to concentrate a hell of a lot more.
