  • New car in town.

Returning from lunch a few minutes ago I spotted a bright yellow pontoon fender RHD Caterham coming straight at me. Throwing my body in front of the car, at great personal risk, I managed to convince the gent to pull over. For openers I said, "I have a Caterham". This nugget of information induced him to have a chat for ten minutes or so.

Calls himself "John" and lives in the Normal Heights?Hillcrest area. Just took delivery a few days ago. The chassis is 1998 with a crossflow. 12,500 miles. Very well kept and looked after car. FIA bar.
Hope to see him on this site and @ the stadium on September 30 to meet a few other 7 owners.

Always great to know that we have another 7 around!

    +1 to that.

And yellow is a great color as well!

I will be out of town on the 30th. Bummer. Not home until about the 5th or 6th.

We should try to schedule a drive or other get together sometime in later October when I'm back home.

It would be fun to take a drive up to Julian sometime this fall. Or a barbecue sometime. Brad, are you autocrossing this year?

Sounds like fun. I'd be up for either….Or both.

Here's a bit of video from a drive up to Julian from Escondido and then out to Borrego Springs earlier this spring:

I was thinking of putting together an October blat to Mt. Palomar & Julian. Any suggestions on date?

We usually start from the Park 'n Ride @ I15 & Highway 78. Alternatives would be considered.

          Please reply if interested.

I'm on travel pretty much all of this month thru about 5 or 6 October. So that I can catch up at home on my return (in the middle of a major remodel here at the moment - Plus I've got a bit of work to do on the Seven) I'd prefer the 1st weekend in November, either Saturday the 3rd or Sunday the 4th.

The Park n Ride at 15/78 is fine and so is North County Fair. It has the plus of a Starbucks nearby there as well.

Yes, interested. However if it is early October, my car may still be in pieces. I am just waiting for cooler days to repair the rear end sheet metal, replace the rear suspension ball joints and get the water pump rebuilt. My drive way work shop is a bit hot right now.

I typically leave from Rancho Bernardo and Pomerado. Starbucks..yes. Gas...yes. No need to take a freeway when leaving? Yes. Highland Valley east is a nice start.

I would like to get a blat in during October because of daylight savings time. Temperature could also be factor.

Meeting in Escondido, or Ramona would work. Depends to some degree on whether any gents from LA area want to join.

Additional suggestions on when, where and who may be interested would be constructive in coming up with a plan.

This would be me. I just picked the car off the truck on Tuesday and getting to know it. It's a 1600 Crossflow that is basically stock engine. I have my first DMV appointment tomorrow. Looking for any and all hints at the SPCNS process for a previously registered car (Currently registered Pennsylvania as 98 Caterham). Has anyone managed to get an oil catch tank through the referees? Is this a problem?

                      John, Welcome aboard!

One of the best functions of this site is to get information/help to other 7 owners on 7 ownership. The owners act like a dealer network, somewhat.

Your question posed above is worthy of a new post, probably in the "Q & A" heading. A search using "DMV" should also be productive. A new topic post will be more visible.

A new topic post should get some responses within a day or two. Plenty of CA 7s have done what you will be trying to do.

Hope to see you on the road with us soon, Brad
