  • Car storage in Long Beach?

During the weekend I visited a friend in his new house for some BBQ. It turned out that he has a 950 sqft garage that is absolutely gorgeous, and he doesn't use it. I told him that he should consider renting it out for car storage. He can easily fit 7-8 cars in there.

Is this a smart thing to do? Anything to think of, apart from detaching the battery? Insurance?

Picture attached, although it is larger than it looks.

Is there public access (would he have to let them in)? Should have some security cameras/tape... I think insurance would have to be different as it would be a commercial type venture and they would frown on their risk should it catch fire.

I'd like to have one of these type of businesses but my location and the economy make it too risky a venture. To me, it would be fun offering a place for car fanatics to hang out, drool over other cars, provide minor maintenance and schedule little blats and Spring/Fall trackdays for owners to "arrive & drive".

It's a detached garage beside the house he lives in. Access through gate (and garage door) should be fairly simple since they are almost always home in the evening.

I wish he was a car nut, but no. If that was the case, it would be the perfect car club hangout, just as you described.

At your location the obvious service would be track car storage for Buttonwillow. I know that there are a few SoCal shops that offer this service though they generally will tow the car to multiple tracks (BW, Willowsprings, Call Speedway)

I need someplace to keep my trailer but don't want to spend too much. Long Beach is a pretty long drove for me.

The guy that works on my Ultralite worked for the "arrive & drive" race car company at Buttonwillow. He's trying to go out on his own... I'm not that hardcore nor talented (have to repair the race cars & deliver/set up at various tracks) and prefer classic cars of all types more than race cars.
