  • I put Stan's exhaust mod on my car

Last time I left my house to drive to super car sunday I put my new doors on the Birkin and hit the freeway. After about 5 minutes I had to pull over and remove the doors as the fumes from the exhaust were really bad and filling up the cockpit.
My Emerald ECU is not properly set up yet and the car is running very rich which makes the fumes even more noxious!

I remember Stan had modified his exhaust and was reminded when I saw the pictures of his car for sale. I printed out one of those pictures and took it and the car down to Mike's performance exhaust south of downtown LA on Florence.

Apparently they don't see many sevens down there, the school kids on the streets were going nuts as I drove by them looking for 'Mike's'.
I couldn't help but be a little anxious as the guy took an electric saw to my car and hacked off the end of the tailpipe. After looking at the picture and various to-ings and frow-ings between the car and the bending machine we settled on a design and he welded it on.

Driving home I noticed a huge difference in the air quality in the cockpit, the exhaust really gets pushed away from the now. The exhaust note has changes a little, maybe a little deeper. Is this going to affect my performance? I couldn't tell as I crawled home up the 110 in rush hour traffic.
Sixty bucks to not die from carbon monoxide poisoning, now that's a great deal!
At some point I'd like to upgrade to one of the side exit performance exhausts but for now this is great.

Looks like a good fix of a an annoying problem and I don't think it will restrict much more than the stock setup does anyway. Not sure if the welder knew the tank is right next to his work area :)

Anyway, just get that ECU mapped straightened out....

Right before pic #3 would be a good time to check that crappy tank sender gasket!

Yes, this relatively cheap mod made a huge difference in exhaust fumes in the cockpit, and it worked well enough that I put off doing a side exhaust. And yes, I was a little anxious when the guy took a saw to my tailpipe too!

            Oh Lordy!
            I can't believe I didn't think of that!
well, very glad it didn't all end in fireball and mushroom cloud! Ha!
He did have an assistant standing by with a little windex type bottle with water in it......so I guess that's fire safety fully covered!
