  • What I've been up to lately.

    Sorry for the absence.

Since I saw Justin's new R500, I finally got my ass in gear and started freshening up my Seven.

New glass replaced the pitted original windshield. Looks good.

After going to three body shops, including two high-end ones, I finally found a hot rod shop in Huntington Beach that will take on the work of replacing the corroded rear panel with a new one that has been sitting in my garage for two years. The problem is rolling the new panel over the curved top tube at the very back of the car. We'll see how it turns out. Car goes in on Wednesday.

Old instrument panel has been removed. Since I now have a Magden digital dash that replaces all gauges, I'll put in a new dash with just the necessary buttons. I'll loose the steering wheel lock as well and move the ignition key to the dash (with a starter button).

    Paint job.
~$1500 if I strip the car of wings, windshield etc, by the body shop who does Viking Motorsports all paint jobs. I've seen a Type S job done by them that was very nice. Car goes in next week, If I can get new front and rear wings in time. The old one are just too beat up to be worth saving.

    /Magnus F.

    Magnus,

That sounds like a good deal. What color(s) are you going for?

Where did you have the glass done? How much did it cost? Were there any issues?

The funny thing is my wife goes " What is that car a Morgan ? " and I said "No that's a Caterham but there is a Morgan driving it " -delise

Don't know where Magnus got the glass, but I got new one in East LA: http://www.iglassprod.com/home.htm ask for Mario

I took the old glass as template and it was about $80 IIRC. They cut 2 pieces for me and Stan and since they broke my pitted template they threw in a 3rd one free :)

I would not say that. They have to fill, sand and prime them anyway. My right front fender had a big crack along the middle, ragged edges and lots of chips but after the paint job last year it looked better than new.

            I used Medina's auto glass. 1-323-608 1650.

I left the windshield in its frame at my front door with a $75 check and came home to exactly the same picture, minus the check and a new pane installed. I haven't put the windshield on the car yet (since the scuttle is off to access the wiring behind the dash), but it looks good.

Wow, so they do mobile custom glass, cool.

There was no issue with the rubber and thicker glass then I take it? See post http://www.californiacaterhamclub.co...ead.php?t=1484

I was quoted $150 by a local place here, I will give these guys a call.

              Thanks!

Suddenly I am unsure if it was $75 or $175. I'll need to have a look when I come home.

                Sorry.

No problems with rubber thickness. I think he used some kind of sealant fluid, though.

Dropped off the car today at Dan Finks Metalworks, where John West (a Brit) took a look at it and said that the rear panel should not pose a problem.

I'll pick it up in the middle of next week.

Here are the color schemes I am thinking about. We'll see if this holds up when dreams meet costs.

Kudos to Miwako who did the photoshop job.

02 is the favorite right now.

Both 1 and 2 are fantastic. Is that gloss or matte grey? I always wondered how a matte black seven with lambo orange racing stripes would look.

I'm actually thinking matte, but need to talk to higher powers (wife) about it before I make up my mind.

Tillett seats, half doors and new wings ordered.

I saw this car and thought it would look great reversed on a caterham. Guess you beat me to it.

I agree through 1 or 2 look excellent.

I think 1 or 2 would look great also.
Is there some sealer/clearcoat on that type of grey... would be a little worried about smudges or stains if not?
Seen a couple motorcycles with that grey (maybe a tad darker) and they look pretty mean.

Another vote for #2, then #1. Matte is an option on the new Mercedes-Benz SLS, but I haven't seen it in the flesh. How is it to keep up? Does it show scratches more or less than high gloss? How about rock chips?
