  • Stormy Weather

We've had some serious wind and rain down here in Escondido in the past couple of days.

First, I think that we had a microburst at our place on Tuesday afternoon. The winds blew down 2 mature Acacias. I was outside during part of it and was not able to stand up in the wind. I know from wind tunnel experience that I can walk in a low crouch at 50 knots airspeed. The trees were blown from west to east onto our side patio. And the BBQ cover / lid was blown in pretty much the opposite direction from the patio to the west about 150 feet. Luckily it didn't hit anything important.

Second, tonight it rained pretty hard for about 1/2 hour from about 5:45 to 6:15 with about 5 - 10 minutes of dime size hail and high winds. I don't know how much the rainfall measured, but we've lived in our house for almost 30 years and never had any semblence of a flood before. We live on a hillside and have excellent drainage. At its peak there was about 8" of water inside the shop and better than a foot in the driveway. The good news is that there wasn't too much stuff on the floor. Its gonna be a fun job to clean up all of the mud in the shop tomorrow.

Anybody else have any serious weather activity out of this set of storms?

I was planning on posting something about this today to see if everyone was doing okay. Our local news devoted quite a bit of time to the story last night and the video footage they showed was pretty shcocking. Having lived in Southern California for about 10 years (Santa Barbara and San Diego) I don't think I saw that much rain in aggregate!

BTW it's dry in the Seattle area today :)
