  • Newbie looking for a Caterham

I'm the newbie here in the USA (from England).

    I'm looking for a recent (2010 onwards) Caterham -- A CSR or high spec R/SV. I'd prefer a new car but don't plan 6 months ahead :-)

I'll be using the car for fun in the sun at track days.

Could anyone looking to sell such a car please contact me here.

    Thanks, Steve

Check the "Adrenaline Gallery" in Southern California; I believe they have a car in their inventory that is similar to what you are looking for. Good luck.

You may want to look here:

Not sure what "special price" means, but $68K is a deal, $55K is highway robbery!

Thank you centerfireman. The car at the Adrenaline Gallery sounds perfect except it's the S3 chassis and I'm 6ft 1. I'm looking at lowering the floor and putting in a seat as it is. I think I need an SV chassis. But thank you for replying.

The RHD thing is a no-no I'm sorry to say.

Just spoke to Caterham USA and they are quoting October build / November ship / January 2013 to me. Sigh

Adrenaline Gallery is planning to build a CSR in the near future. May be available...

And that's only if all goes according to schedule. Not a high probability of that.

That's what I thought when I went looking. I'm 6'-3"+. In fact, many years ago when they first came out it was the FB (Fat Boy) car that got me to the dealer. While looking I hopped out of the fatty and into an S3 and realized that I fit. Your height wouldn't be a problem w/ the S3. The SV is wider more than longer.

As for seats my experience (and that of many others) is that the Tillets are far more comfortable than they appear, especially when engaged in what a Caterham does better than just about every other car in the world: flying around corners. Spec 'em.

As for lead time, well, there's about a jillion hackneyed sayings about patience and waiting and anticipation and such like and I'll spare 'em. Suffice to say that the 1st drive makes all the angst of waiting go away instantly. Think of it as a really long wait for the best Christmas present ever.

Assembling a car yourself is one of the great joys of ownership. Many of us here have done so. Well worth it both for the knowledge gained in the doing and the fun.

                    Agreed. I'm 6'-4". I have a S3 with lowered floors. Fits great.

To clarify... we are starting an order for a CSR soon, but this is a customer car. We are also starting soon on an order for the shop CSR, but we have not moved on that yet and it will be December if not January before it is fired up.

The critical thing IMO on the S3 is width of hips/lower back for the seat. Overall leg length (taller torso is fine). And size of shoes..mainly width. The SV does have a larger pedal box so larger feet will be more confortable. At 6'1"... it will depend on the legs/torso and size of feet.

Might consider selling my 2008 CSR260, however $65k is way too low for a $95k car. if you are interested at a fair price give me a ring and I'll supply all of the specs. [email protected]

Likewise, I'm 6'-4" and my RHD S2 fits me well. Even with its vinyl over plywood seats it's very comfortable to me. However it did require a bit of work on rigging the pedals and fitting a small diameter steering wheel from a Caterham to make it so.
