  • 1992 Caterham Dedion BRG

Selling my 1992 Caterham. 20k mikes. Bought used at the Caterham showroom in Caterham, England 5 years ago. Shipped back and registered for California use on SB100 registration and smog exempt. Fully rebuilt Cross Flow 1700 motor by Huffacker about 1k miles ago. Mods include:

3/4 race cam (don't have exact spec)
Rebuilt heads with big valve upgrade
    New valves
    Roller tappets
    High performance pistons
    New bearings
    New clutch
    New oil pump
    High performance header and exhaust
    New brake rotors and pads
New Panasport wheels (includes old Caterham 7 wheels)
    Magnafluxed block
    New cylinder bores
    Balanced crank
    Rebuilt carbs - 2 40 DCOE
    New fuel pump
    New battery
Over $19,000 in just engine and brake work with all receipts.
Dynoed at Huffacker to get carb jetting just right. About 140 HP
    DeDion rear suspension
There is a small dent in the rear which you can't see when the spare wheel is on.
Various pictures here, not all of them of the car in its current state:

Runs great! Just really broken in. All weather equipment included and side deflectors. Long cockpit chassis (Not an SV) I am 6'2" 200 lbs and it fits me perfectly....like a glove.
A blast of a car that begs to be driven like a maniac! I am looking for something with a roof. I am in for around $35, selling $25,000...my loss is your gain! Not a 10 point car, but you would spend twice as much to build up new. In Kentfield, Marin County next to SF. Mark
I can be reached via cell 415.233.3409 or [email protected]

I know it sounds like a bad idea. I just wanted to put it out there and see if anything popped up. Of course as soon as I drive it, it becomes an even worse idea! :D

I am lusting for an Exige...what is a man to do?

You should talk with Tony Vaccaro (frequents the USA section of www.se7ens.net). He sold his Crossflow Caterham 4 years ago to buy an Elise.

Last year he purchased his old Caterham back from the buyer.....

I've spoken to at least one other person that did the same thing as Tony. Sold Seven, bought Elise, missed the Seven so much they bought another.

I've thought about buying an Elise as an addition to the seven - not a replacement...but I don't fit in an Elise at all. I'm too tall. I have a nice view of the visor though.

You can apparently get them on the cheap now. I was out with the local Elise club and they mentioned Exiges in the 40K range. Don't know if that was for a brand new car though.

Can you fit a lowered floor to one? ;)

That is funny Slomove! I am very conscious of how absolutely different the Caterham experience is to a normal car, and how I would really miss it. Also the tinkering...it is an aspect I also really enjoy.

Thanks for the note! I don't think the car is really for sale, but you know how one loves to entertain the possibilites! :D

Now, does anyone have a set of bucket seats for sale?:p

I recently heard a story about a 7 being offered for sale in the Palm Springs/Desert area. Per the teller of this tale, the 7 owner took a prospective buyer for a road test. Upon conclusion of the test drive the owner had reconnected with 7 and decided not to sell the car. Just too much fun! NOTHING like a 7.....

Funny. I am looking to get rid of my Exige to get into a Caterham, but I have never owned a Caterham. Just waiting for a combination of work and nice weather to coincide to take some pictures after a good detail so I can put it up for sale (I live in CO, which as I am told has more sunny days than San Diego, but recently has had fits of snow and rain on the weekends).

Would love to see some pics. Shoot me a pm when you get a chance. The Caterham experience is quite a departure from the normal car. How has your Exige experience been? They seem so civilized in comparison!
