Looong Thanksgiving Blat (almost a tour?)

I was kicking around an idea with Dion and Sindy Davis.....A drive on the Thanksgiving weekend to the area of SLO, Morro Bay or Cambria.

That could mean drive up Friday, pootle around the nice roads in the area on Saturday, drive home Sunday, maybe with a Saturday night BBQ, some wine tasting or whatever.....

Any other takers?

I'm very interested. I might have relatives over for Thanksgiving (plans still being worked out), but I can probably break away Friday for the weekend.

The Cambria Pines hotel in Cambria that the USA2005 tour stayed at was nice. My family went back for a few days last spring and we stayed in one of their new cabins. It was great, very comfortable, and the price was reasonable. I don't know what the weather is like on the coast that time of year, but it rained a lot while we were there!

Never mind about the Cambria Pines Lodge, they are already booked that weekend, plus they had a 3 night minimum for Thanksgiving.

I'm not familar with the area, but there are probably lots of B&B's (since it's wine country) and small inn's around.

If not Rosie and I have to go (i.e. drive) these roads alone, brave the onslaught of scenery and road curves and find only solace in one of the wineries along the way.

I'll go for sure. Marcia probably won't be able to as her parents will be visiting, unless plans change.

I took the Birkin out for a long test drive today, the first of any significant distance since coming home from PNW2007. It likes the cooler weather! I had no problems, no stalling, no hesitation. I bought a cheap used laptop on ebay with a serial port so I can hook up to the ecu, just awaiting delivery.

Any word from Tom Jones or John Haskey about joining us?

we have been looking around for rooms and it seems to be filling up rapidly. At the Peach Tree Inn the Saturday is already booked on the online reservation system but we are waiting for a call from the manager if they have maybe 4 rooms left somewhere.

Morro Bay and Pismo Beach do not look promising at all.

If that all does not work out we may have to look e.g. in Atascadero, which is actually very close to SLO. Any problem with that?

Anyway, if we find something we may have to act fast....

Let me know your opinion and I will keep you posted on the Peach Tree Inn reply.

Gert, I just tried the online reservation for Peach Tree Inn and it still shows the five rooms available. When you are on their online reservation calendar, click the 23rd and it will open up the other days. Hopefully the manager will call you back, but if not we can go ahead and try online? (Assuming that's where we want to stay!)
