  • 4th annual Nor Cal Sevens picnic and blat - 2015 August 08

Fourth Annual Nor-Cal Sevens picnic and blat
    Date: 2014 August 08, a Saturday
    Time: 8:30 a.m. to whenever
Location: Vasona Park in Los Gatos, California ($6.00 park admission fee for each car)
Peppertree picnic area has been reserved
Motto: Rain-free picnicking more than 66% of the time!

Plan: Meet at 8:30 a.m., drive starting around 9:45 or so, and return somewhere around noon-ish or whenever for BBQ & BS. I'll try to be there right when the park opens at 8:00 a.m.

I'll grill a bunch of sausages for all like last year - that worked pretty well. Please just show up with a car full of fuel, and we'll just drive, eat, and do the general picnic stuff. Families welcome.

Glad to hear (read) that, Dave! I guess you got your back-up block installed and operational.

For lunch this year, I'm aiming to get a variety of sausages from the local sausage maker, New York Style Sausage Co. in Sunnyvale.

edit -- Called this local family-owned sausage place to ask where I might find some of their non-typical varieties (Calabrese, Jalapeأ±o, hot link, and brats) for sale in the area, and they said to pop in to their Sunnyvale factory around lunch time and they'd give me some samples. I told them about my picnic plans, and they said that although they are a wholesale outfit, they would either direct me to a retailer who will have what I need, or they'll make an exception and sell to me directly for the picnic quantity. Gotta love supporting your local!

I have no affiliation with this company, but I do like their sausages, and I like the personal way they handle their customers even more.

I will be there in some form, Sean. I'm unlikely to take delivery of my 7 kit before end-June, so odds of the car being ready to drive by August 8th are low. If it's a roller by then, I might put it on a trailer and bring the work-in-progress to VCP around BBQ & BS time.

I shall be ready for some crowd wisdom on the build by then...

Sean, please move me to tentative too. I've just learned I may be living in switzerland for work from late july through the better half of August.

Did somebody say sausages? I will be there for the food. Unfortunately I am doubtful for the blat.

                            Looks like I'm tentatively confirmed.

Sean - any idea on route? I like the idea of full tank of gas so we don't have to try and get gas together like last year.

If it's not too boring, I'd propose the same route we did last year. I drove that route last weekend, and it's just as good as it ever was, but only one stop for road maintenance on Hwy 9 this year (there's frequently at least one during the summer). I was thinking we will probably want to go by Alice's at the 35/84 junction to pick up Russ and Andreas, but then neither of them have responded so far. Open to suggestions.

With just over a week to go and only six confirmed and three tentative, the lunch part shouldn't take very long this year. Attendance is usually about double the number of people who have responded when it is still one week prior to the event, so unless numbers change significantly in the next few days, I'll plan to provide food for 20-25 people.
