  • Willow next Friday, July 30th?

I have heard that the main circuit at Willow Springs is open for general use/abuse on Fridays. I am considering a run up there on July 30th just for the day. Anyone interested in joining me?

I'm in and will have a tire pyrometer by then.

$75 to join W.S.I. R. Membership required (good for the rest of this year).
    Plus $75 for the day.

Trip cancelled due to lack of a race suit. You need full race kit to drive there on Fridays.

I'll have to remember this for next season. Going back to Toronto in a month or so and will pick a suit and new helmet.
I'll let everyone know when I go. They have some good deals and, of course, are in Canadian dollars.

Hmm, racesuit and helmet, that's it? I did not see what "race-prepared" means. I hope it is not rollcage and fixed fire system?

Well I called to inquire what "race prepared" means. The lady who answered to phone told me that the car must have a fuel cell or fuel cutoff switch; a roll bar (not necessarily a cage); a fire extinguisher which need not be plumbed, and that's it. Whether those rules hold good once you get to the track is anyone's guess. Someone told me they never check.

As for clothing, you need full race gear - fire rated helmet, suit, gloves and boots.

I assume that the fuel cutoff switch delivered with every Caterham (on the passenger side firewall) should do instead of a fuel cell.
I am just short of boots to fulfill the requirements, but I've got family visiting family to entertain that weekend.

Thanks Michael. Looks like I can go sometimes. At least I got the fuel cell

I took my car to Vacaville yesterday (8 hour drive  ) to fix and upgrade. Should be back on the road end of August after my vacation. How about a weekend blat 8/28-29 ?

Magnus - you are correct that the fuel cutoff switch is (allegedly) sufficient as an alternative to a fuel cell.

Slomove - always interested in a blat. Call or email when you get back.

In order to get the most bang for the buck I prefer the two day events because of the distance from SD and towing involved. Shelby Club at the end of September is in my future. 8)

I'D BE INTERESTED IN THE FRIDAY EVENT, DOES ANYTBODY KNOW WHAT KIND OF A TURNOUT THEY GET? ANOTHER CONSIDERATION IS THE HEAT WHICH CAN BE QUITE BRUTAL AT THIS TIME OF YEAR. I WAS THERE IN JULY WHEN THE TRACK SURFACE TEMP WAS 140 PLUS AND IN A CATERHAM THE RADIANT HEAT IS SUCKED INTO THE COCKPIT AND IT FEELS LIKE YOUR BEING ROASTED IN A CONVECTION OVEN. BUT I SHOULD ADD THAT MY CANADIAN BLOOD HATES ANYTHIN OVER BODY TEMPERATURE. STUFFING YOUR FOUR LAYER NOMEX SUIT WITH GOOD HUMOUR BARS WORKS WELL... FOR A WHILE.
