  • Annual Blats

A few lads on this site got together for a Maliblat this weekend and ended up having breakfast with the Guv @ the Rock House. Guv was seen leaving astride an Indian motorcycle followed by a bevy SUVs filled with security types trying to keep up. He just couldn't stay away from a gang of 7s! But, I digress from my topic heading and will now return to subject.

Mr. Bedard related the above story and in the course of the conversation that followed an idea for some annual blats emerged. Several locations were obvious choices 1) The roads above Malibu and the Santa Monica mountains; 2) Santa Barbara area; 3) Crest highway area; 4) Lake Arrowhead-Big Bear; 5) San Jacinto-Idyllwild; 6) Mt. Palomar-Julian.

The thought was that each of these could be a one day event; or could be combined into two day events such as 1 & 2, 3 & 4, or 5 & 6. These 2 day events would include include overnight stays and possbly be spouse optional. This would give everyone the chance to meet the other 7ers and enjoy our cars together more often. Perhaps there would be one event in the spring and another in the fall.

Is anybody interested in participating in such activities? My feeling is the more the merrier!! Please post all constructive/destructive suggestions so that we can guage the interest of evreryone. Thank you. 8)

Yes! I was somewhat frustrated that several earlier attempts fell apart or did not find enough interest. Maybe it is just that we need enough lead time for planning.

But I will surely participate in any possible event when I am not traveling (happens rarely). 1 or 2 days are fine. We should not overdo it and schedule something every other month or every quarter.

I am not sure what the possibilities are to combine a Blat-weekend with some technical activities. But I remember one member of this list suggested last year the availability of a flat-floor scale and a dyno.

Blats are good. Because every once in a while even the most rabid seven owner has a moment when you wonder if buying a seven was the right thing to do. Maybe it's the wife telling you it's really really dangerous driving around extremely fast in a golf bag with wheels..or getting caught in a rainstorm and begging a family of four to trade you even up for their Daewoo sedan. Whatever, a blat with a few other sevens on a gorgeous day will reawaken the love affair with your car and the world.
Once again you will be able laugh knowingly at the hot dogs in the Mustangs, scoff at the Pricks in the Porches and cancel your appointment with the psychiatrist, becuse nothing will make you feel better than a good Blat. Well, except for several Blats which is what Brad is suggesting and I think we should listen and support him because he's a very intelligent man.

Michael: Be careful :!: Those on this site who know me may use the last phrase in your last sentence as evidence to refer you to a psychiatrist :(

If we have some interest in this plan we can appoint blatmeisters, to plan our routes, who live in the regions we invade

Ideas about where to stay and where to dine would also be welcome if we can get something on the calendar one of theses days.

Anyone else out there liking this idea :?: 8)
