  • How about Buttonwillow with the Alfa Club May 29 & 30?

The Memorial Day weekend? How many of you have a better offer than Buttonwillow for the weekend? The Alfa Club runs their events much like the Shelby Club---although they are more interested in actual time trials and racing. About a half dozen of us have previously run their events and can vouch for lots of track time, safety and FUN. If we got enough cars together we could eventually have our own race---someday. Magnus and I are looking for company on this one. Clark and Michael B expressed interest @ Willow a few weeks back. Gert also mentioned this possibility and I think William S may have an Enduro participant or two. Last year John Morton and Milt Minter guest drove 7s @ this event. So, if you are at least interested please "sound off". Michael M? Doug L? Jon S? Jeff R? Gene T? Scott E? Ronbo? Jacques L? Brad B? Martin F? Griffca? WJokon? Moosetestbestanden? Men of the North?

The Alfa Club website can be found @: arosc.org They are good car guys and run excellent and reasonably priced events.

    Francis, are you in?

    Let's go :!: 8)

I shall see if I can get my LSD in place prior to the race...

I am interested, but wondering whether the enduro event will crimp our track time. Does anyone know the likely schedule for those who are not participating in the enduro?

Michael: The Alfa Club runs a format similar to that of the Shelby Club. Every 60-80 minutes you go out for about 20 minutes from 9-12 and 1-5. The noon hour on saturday will be used for Enduro qualifying. The Enduro is run saturday sometime after 5 for a total of 2 hours 40 minutes. So, the plan is that it won't much interfere with the regular activities. William can give you more information on this because he ran two cars in it last year. The Alfa guys are good guys and run good events :!: Visit www.arosc.org

          New Helmet?

I think my old Nolan is out of date now. Was wondering if anyone has a handle on any in the $200-300 range; brands and stores? If I can get my act together I might try to make it for the next lapping day.

Alfa Club requires 95 or later Snell #. Any motorcycle shop should have some selection, just be sure it is Snell rated/approved. As you know, full face is best with a 7. Keeps the rocks out of your teeth :!:

              Helmet

When I was looking for my helmet none of the motorcycle shops had "SA" rated helmets. All were "M" rated for bikers and the trackday organizers don't allow for that. I ended up buying my helmet from the Bell warehouse in Costa Mesa because mail ordering is annoying when you want to try it out.

                Snell 95

I read somewhere recently (probably in an Alfa Club flyer) that next year the club will upgrade the Snell rating requirement from Snell 95 to something later (Snell 98? Snell 2000?). You might check with the club before buying, to avoid unplanned obsolescence.

                  helmet

The common racing suppliers all had SA2000 on their current models when I looked last year. As long as you don't buy from some fire sale or eBay it should be the most recent rating.

                      Bell Helmets
                      949 Newhall St.
                      Costa Mesa, CA 92627
                      949-574-2890

This is not a store but their (pretty ugly) West Coast distribution warehouse. You have to call and make an appointment. I got the Bell M2 helmet there for $289 and I like it, fits very well.

It is not cheaper than through Internet resale and you must pay tax but no shipping/handling charges and you can try different models and sizes. Don't trust the guy's advice, they have not clue.

Another option may be Simpsonworld. I have never been there but believe they are in Torrance?

A store that services racers/karters should have some selection. There is likely to be a store in SB, Oxcart or someplace a lot nearer than Costa Mesa. It is imperative to try some on and see which fit best as your head is going to be living in the helmet for the next few years. I think that the Snell rating is upgraded every 5 years: 1995, 2000, 2005, etc.

Hey Slomove, do you know if the Bell outlet sells the Pyrotect line also? From what I understand they make that line also.

I very much regret to report that my son's little league career is taking precedence over MY driving career this weekend. Meaning that I will regretfully not be @ Buttonwillow. Magnus has been called to Sweden and will also be unable to attend. We hope to get together with a bunch of you at another event very very soon, if not sooner :!: Profound Apologies for any inconveniences incurred :!: 8)
