      Very tempting.

I shall give it serious thought.

Sounds good....I might be there. Family is out of town anyway and with the furlough Fridays we got now, no PTO needed. Well, it will be UPTO of course....

I could imagine driving up Hwy 1 on Friday, be there Sat and return via Airline Hwy on Sunday.

        Thanks for the tip!

        Gert

P.S.: this would make for nice trip back.

Gert- That does look like fun. I've bought tickets for sunday as well, so I'll probably try to get home quickly on sunday night.

Do I need to swap the Birkin badge for a Lotus badge or do they care?

Well I'm very interested and that is one of my few free weekends this summer.

Any suggestions on where to stay? I've only been to a few of the convention hotels in Monterey, expensive if you don't get the convention rates.

Whoa...just checked. Pretty bad and some hotels are already booked solid. Checked also in Salinas. Only a little cheaper and some real bad reviews.

Maybe I just bring a small tent and try to make a reservation at the county campground next to the track.

You could come a little further north into Santa Cruz County. We've got some real nice roads here...

Even San Jose is normally only one hour away from Monterey by car. However, it is sure to take longer than that for the drive during that particular weekend.

Unfortunately for me, I will be out of town that weekend.

I've never had a problem with traffic.

I would check watsonville, santa cruz, gilroy and morgan hill. You may have a 1/2 hour drive though.

I will be staying in San Jose, but that's only because my room and board is free.

                          Would be nice, indeed.
But with one day up, one day there and one day back home that would be a bit tight....

I am considering to stay in Hollister, maybe here. Not the most exciting place in the world but $65 cheap, not too far and at the beginning of the Airline Highway.

And.....Stan, Doug? Only 400 miles one way.

                              Yes, I'm in!

The place in Hollister looks fine for two nights.

Pashnit.com has a good write-up of Airline Hwy and it looks like a good drive.
