I discussed this event more with Jerry Kunzman and he said that NASA would consider giving us our own separate HPDE group for the entire day on 8/22, in addition to the sevens-only Exhibition race, if enough sevens sign-up far enough ahead to plan it. Not clear how many cars that would take exactly, but my impression is something in the 40+ range would work. This might be worth a try. Imagine driving with 40 sevens for a whole day on Infineon.

I want to get out there to see how Jim McClure's Series 1 can be so darn fast. My Superlight is on order but, with June or July delivery, I doubt that I will have it built in time for the event and would also have to find a trailer to get it there since I won't be able to register it until next January under SB100. Will know more after the car arrives and I see what I am getting myself into.
Sounds like a fun event and I do want to get my feet wet in HPDE. Sears Pt. is only about 25 miles from home so it's quite convenient. If someone needs a place to stay and isn't allergic to cats, I'd be happy to give you a "room".
For anyone thinking about making the event remember that Sears Pt. is home to Golden Gate Sevens (Caterham), and Roger Hamlin who makes the roll cages for Birkins, etc. I don't know if they will be open during the event however.

Occasionally endurance racers from opposite sides of the pond swap seats for venues like LeMans for Daytona/Sebring rides. The drivers get to race on tracks which would otherwise not be feasible for transportation reasons. Is there any interest out there for similar arrangements between NorCal events and SoCal events? This could save some guys from some 10-12 hour tows. If anybody thinks this idea is worth pursuing please post here or start a new topic. 8)

Here might be a good place to start for info:
You will be running in HPDE so the rules for that will apply if you intend to do some track time rather than just exhibition driving on the track at lunchtime, etc.
You might be able to get more info from the guys posting here:
but the NASA Challange series is real racing. You won't need to meet all the stringent regulations that these cars have to. Just read about the HPDE requirements and you should be set. Plus check in with some guys who have run an HPDE event as they may have some good info.
I'll see you up at Sears Pt. but probably won't have my car ready. Heck, it hasn't even been shipped yet from England that I am aware of. Going to pick up my SVT engine and 5 speed next week in Colorado so may have the drive train before the car. Even if I get the car ready for the Sevens Festival I don't think it would be wise to take it on the track with zero miles on the car or engine.

The HPDE requirements information that you need should be on the NASA website here:
If you don't see what you're looking for please ask. In general your car must have a roll bar, you must have a helmet, and your car must pass NASA's HPDE tech. The tech inspection should be done prior to the day of the event.

Just for my future reference, where and how would one get tech inspection done the day before the race? What if you decided to arrive at the track the day of the race/event and live quite a distance away from the event?

Here is the NASA web page that has list of tech inspection stations in N. Calif.:
Sometimes they will do inspections at the track the morning of the event too, but its probably better to have it done and any problems taken care of before the event.

NASA's HPDE policy has been that you are supposed to have your car tech'ed before the day of the event, or pay a surcharge for getting tech'ed at the track on the day of the event. The items that the inspectors check are listed on NASA's HPDE tech form at:
The inspections are done by appointment anytime before the event. You then bring the completed and signed form with you to the track.
Rich Kamp is authorized by NASA to do the inspection, though he might not be listed, so he might be the best one to call to ask about specifics pertinent to a seven, and the cost. I'm sure that other inspection shops would be glad to answer questions as well.
