Hey everyone,
Ever had to replace a Bendix gear that missing some teeth? Do you have to replace the entire starter? What is a good source for parts? My car is an early Caterham S3 (1975). |

You should be able to replace just the bendix.
I get my stuff from Wagner Alternator in Chino. http://www.wagneralt.com/ Rick Wagner made the mistake of being incredibly helpful for a relatively small sale so they are my first choice. Check the flywheel ring gear too. Hopefully OK as that's an engine out deal. Last edited by Doug Liedblad; January 24th, 2010 at 06:48 PM. |

I might also have a complete cross flow starter that I no longer need.

Thanks Doug. I'll let you know what I find out. Might take a few weeks as I'm out of town.

If your starter is under the headers and doesn't work well when hot, the best thing might be one from this guy.

The adaptor and case are aluminum. It weighs much less than the iron hunk it replaced.

Once I know if this is a Bendix gear or solenoid problem, I'll let you gents know. After all, it IS an old Caterham with an original Lotus Twin Can motor in it, (mid-1970). I suspect that there are a few teeth missing off the Bendix. We shall see.
